It is technology most often deployed to catch terrorists and criminals. Now facial recognition is coming for another category of public enemies — drinks queue jumpers.
A bar in London has used the controversial technology to thwart those who previously relied on their sharp elbows, good looks or a waved tenner to cut ahead in the line.
The camera system identifies when each customer first approaches the bar. Their heads appear circled on a large monitor behind the bar marked with their place in the queue and their estimated waiting time.
Because of its position near the spirits shelves, the display is visible both to staff and punters.
