Rising inequality in Britain could mean the country ends up like the US, one of the most unequal nations on earth, a leading economist has warned.
Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Angus Deaton, who is spearheading a review of the UK’s economic and social inequality, said it is at risk of suffering more extreme gaps in pay, wealth, and health, as seen across the Atlantic.
Sir Angus spoke to the Guardian at the launch of study, explaining: “There’s a real question about whether democratic capitalism is working, when it’s only working for part of the population.
